Henge Education offers both accredited (through partnerships with registered training organisations) and non-accredited short courses. We are able to 'go bush' to meet training needs and source additional educational programs when required.
First Response Courses
HLT FA 301B Apply Advanced First Aid (One Day)
This course provides participants with the knowledge and skill to confidently recognise and respond to an emergency situation requiring first aid. The course is suitable for the general public, students and corporate clients. This course can be tailor made to suit your specific requirements.
Content: Principles of First Aid, legal issues, Infectious Diseases and Hygiene, Basic Human Anatomy and Physiology, Management of Conscious and Unconscious Casualties, Airway Management, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Bleeding & Shock, Burns, Fractures and Soft Tissue Injuries, Head Injuries, Ear, Eye and Facial Injuries, Chest, Pelvic and Spinal Injuries, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Stroke, Asthma, Heart Conditions, Environmental Exposure (hot and cold), Poisons, Bites and Stings, Generalised Introduction to Mental Health First Aid, Special Consideration for Remote Area First Aid.
HLT FA 402B Apply Occupational First Aid (1 week)
This course provides participants with knowledge and skill to confidently recognise and respond to emergency situation. It is suitable for participants involved in the workplace first aid rooms or assisting occupational nursing staff. The course is designed for individuals or organisations according to workplace or community first aid policy and procedures.
Content: Principles of Occupational First Aid, Legislation Requirement, Workplace Diseases and Hygiene, Basic Human Anatomy and Physiology, Primary and Secondary Casualty Examination, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Advanced Oxygen Resuscitation, Trauma and Bleeding, Shock, Burns and Scalds in the Workplace , Wound Dressing (including aseptic management), Head & Spinal Injuries, Immobilisation, Ear, Eye & Facial Injuries, Chest Injuries, Heart Conditions, Industrial Environmental Exposure, Industrial Toxic Hazards, First Aid Rooms, Documentation, Immobilisation and Transport, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Principles of Triage, Medications in the Workplace, additional topics available upon request
Basic First Aid/CPR (4 hours)
This course provides participants with knowledge and skill to confidently recognise and respond to an emergency situation requiring basic first aid and resuscitation techniques.
Content: Principles of First Aid, First Aid Hygiene, Unconscious casualties, Airway Management, Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Bleeding, Asthma, Documentation.
HLT FA 402B Automated External Defibrilation (AED) (4 hours)
Participants will gain the knowledge and skills to effectivly use an automated external defibillator (AED) an a casualty in cardiac arrest. This training is suitable for individuals, companies and organisations. It will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to make them confident and competent to use an AED.
Content: Anatomy and Physiology of the Heart, The Common Cardiac Conditions which lead to Cardiac Arrest, Introduction to AED, Use and Safety, Specifications of the Device
HLT FA 404A Advanced Oxygen Resuscitation (4 hours)
This course is ideal for participants requiring knowledge and skills in the use of oxygen resuscitators and supplementary oxygen delivery in advanced first aid management.
Content: Anatomy and Physiology of the Respiratory System, The Common Respiratory Conditions (which require supplementary oxygen), Hypoxia, Oxygen Safety, Oxygen Devices, Administration of Oxygen, Oral Airway Insertion, Use of Suction Devices
This is a newly developed program to start teaching children from 5 to 12 the basic principles of First Aid and safety. This is an interactive dynamic way to teach while having fun! Content: What is an Emergency, Who Attends Emergencies, What Number Do You Call, Identify Emergency Workers, Fun Practice Session On How To Dial "000", What Is Your Address, What To Say, Practice On How To Put Someone On Their Side, Teddy CPR, Bandageing Bear, Sing Along and Story Telling.Little Heros - School First Aid for Children
Hospitality First Responder
This course of training enables staff to make an appropriate first response to patrons of licensed vanues who may experience a medical emergency due to alcohol and/or other drug use, trauma or collapse.
Medical Emergencies in Children
This 2 hour course covers common medical emergencies such as asthma, anaphylaxis, fitting and poisoning. Aimed at parents, child care workers and teachers this course is essential particularly for those working and living in isolation.
"The White Box"
Designed for rural people with no health qualifications, this course covers basic responses to common health conditions and how to use the medications provided in the white box. This course is designed especially for pastoralists and others living in isolation.
Fire Safe
Delivered by a qualified fire officer this 2 hour Fire Safe program meets mandatory training requirements for worksites and OH&S programs.
Manual Handling
The 4 hour workshop covers theory and practice and is ideal for an orientation program or annual update.
Medication Management
A short course for personal care workers or Enrolled Nurses who want to upskill or gain formal endorsement to practice in their health setting. The course is mixed mode, the workshop component running over one weekend.
Medical Terminology
This one day workshop is delivered by nursing professionals and is suitable for anyone who works in or around health care. All participants recieve take home support notes.
Introduction to Aged Care
Topics from the Certificate III in Aged Care have been purposefully selected to enable participants to develop the skills required to provide safe and competent care and meet employers duty of care to staff. All topics are eligible credit transfer into accredited courses.
Certificate Courses
In partnership with registered training organisations Henge Education offers a number of accredited courses in the health and community care sector. Henge will work with students to maximise national recognition or recognition of prior learning opportunities. Whilst meeting all prescribed competencies all of the courses have a rural and remote edge.

This course is delivered mixed mode over 6 months, the first four of which involve a weekend workshop. Ideal for those who want to develop skills in health and community related fields in resource allocation, finance and general people management.
Diploma Courses
Henge Education, in partnership with Carers Training Centre NRTO 2237 delivers Enrolled Nurse training.
HLT51607 Diploma of Nursing
The Diploma of Nursing is a 12 month full time and 18 month part time course delivered in face to face mode from Henge training rooms. The course is designed for people who want to embark on a nursing career, and whilst embracing all the generic nursing competencies there is an emphasis on rural and remote practice. Students need to undertake clinical placement in aged, acute, community and remote settings during the course of their training. Upon completion students need to seek enrollment with the South Australia Nurses Board.
HLT51607 Diploma of Nursing upgrade
This course is offerred free for a limited time in the Northern Territory to enrolled nurses wishing to upgrade from a Certificate 4 to the Diploma of Nursing.
