HACC Program (NT & WA)
NT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged care training project
Working in partnership with the NT Department of Health and Families (NTDHF), the Department of Health and Ageing engaged four NT based Registered Training Organisations to provide training in aged care in 59 communities in the NT - Fact Sheet (PDF-24kb).
The NT Aged Care Training (NTACT) Project aims to develop the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged care workforce in the NT aged care sector in remote areas by:
- developing the NT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged care workforce through the provision of culturally appropriate training;
- ensuring quality aged care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through appropriate staffing and training; and
- building capacity and sustainability in the aged care training workforce in the NT
The NTACT Project which commenced in February 2009 works towards building capacity and sustainability within the aged care workforce through:
- conducting skills audits for all staff;
- determining staff training needs; and
- delivering training to meet these needs.
Henge Education delivers culturally appropriate accredited training in Certificate III Home and Community Care (HACC), however the NTACT project promotes training to meet individual learner needs, and also therefore provides for training in Certificate II in Community Services, Certificate III / IV in HACC and Certificate III / IV in Aged Care.
